Hi everyone. Ya’ll still hanging with me?… ’cause I gotta admit that just knowing you all out there in the blogosphere has developed into quite the warm fuzzy blanket of comfort during a hectic first week of the semester.
Not that things are bad here. In many ways, it’s been a very encouraging start to the semester, as my returning student assistants have jumped in with at least one foot, and I’m covered up in new student assistants, which is very promising for the rest of the year. However, new students also mean new trainings, new questions, new challenges. It’s only Wednesday, but I already feel like I’ve put in a full week of running around after them, in addition to fulfilling faculty requests, coordinating workshops, and duplicating media.
What I really didn’t need was for the media server to act up, and for the printer to decide to summarily ignore all print requests in the print queue. I keep waiting for some kind of unreasonable ransom request: “You’ll get your print jobs when I receive a gold-plated network card and three svelt, scantily-dressed Scandinavian women to gently grease all my gears…” [When I hear the printer in my head, it’s definitely got the attitude of a chauvenist pig. I’m really starting to hate this printer….]
So with the running around and the general freneticness of a new semester, I find that I don’t really have the mental energy to deal with the tech problems, and still be gracious to the students and faculty. I mean, I’m multitalented, but I’m not a saint! A girl’s got her limits.
But moving right along…
I don’t really have anything terribly witty to say tonight. At first I thought, “Trish, don’t write if you don’t have anything witty to say.” I went with that for awhile. But then I decided that, in case it takes me a few days to get back into blogging, at least you’d know that I’m not dead…
I’m just locked in tense hostage negotiations with an HP network printer.
Hmmm. On the same technological wave length, I really needed to print an important document that I needed right then and there, and my HP decided to hide itself from the computer’s brains and became unrecognizable, and then disguised itself as “new hardware”. New hardware? Did some little HP elf come during the night and give me a new printer that looks exactly like the old one I used just the night before? I mean, how do these glitches inertly happen? When you figure out your HPCP (HP chauvinist pig) printer, please let me know! But I’m not greasing anybody’s gears, thank you very much!!! Hang in there, you sound very busy, so I appreciate the post all the more.
BW
all printers KNOW when they are needed, hence the way they intentionally fail our important requests.
My Dell printer has ceased printing everything. I am ready to kick it out to the dumpster if it doesnt get back online soon-grrr
Printers..grrr…printers lol. You know I always do all the trouble shooting junk..then you know what almost always works?? I turn it off and then turn it back on and the beast finally decides to behave!
As far as my job i’ll be working for a company called Veterinary Services, Inc. They are the leading west coast distributor of vet supplies (ie; they supply all the feed stores, pet stores, ranches, farms and vet clinics) It’s a step into THAT industry that I needed! I start school working towards my Animal science degree which will then after I establish myself out there that will help me get in to the Ag field. Very Very excited!
My husband also found out he is getting medically separated from the Marine Corps in March which is a blessing (no more deployments and no more 2 hour commute!). He will finally be able to launch his horse training and the ranch into full force! It’s a year of changes for both of us.
Glad to see you writing again :0)
When I read your post this morning, I just had to laugh. Our color printer is all the way in the back of the building, and I think it hates me – or else it thinks I need exercise. Its handler even told me it has to get to know you before it will print your jobs properly. LOL! It really is a beast, but it collates AND staples which I think is way cool. I’m going to try sending it positive vibes next time I go pick up my copies!
