When it rains, it pours.

Apparently, it pours in my laundry room.  Last night I came home late from work expecting to do laundry.  I didn’t expect to be mopping up the laundry room where the waterheater had burst.

I’m tired, cranky, and tired.

(I’m not even going to go into a long, apologetic post about why I’ve not been posting recently.  Too much “whah” and not enough “why”.  ;- )  Let’s just launch into the new year with optimism and recommittment, shall we? )

I’ve been thinking about fruits a lot recently.  This is not that unusual, since I’m surrounded by college students, but in this particular case, I’m thinking about planting fruit trees down at the farm.  We already have one apple tree, a Yates apple tree that was planted by my great-grandmother, and last fall Emilie and I had a lot of fun experimenting with all the fun that can be had from fresh apples and a little ingenuity, and I started thinking that we needed more, -more-, MORE!

So, I have now located a reputable nursery (www.isons.com) only a few minutes from my house and am ready to invest in my very first experimentation with orcharding! I’m so excited!  Grandpa has indicated a few places on his land that would be good for fruit trees, and we’re moving forward.

These are one-year trees, which means they will bear in three to four years, but that means that in three to four years we will start seeing homegrown apples (fuji and gala) and pears (bosc and d’anjou), and maybe I’ll go a little crazy and get some blueberries, too!  Who knows, but this could be the start of a wonderful adventure!

Now, I just need to find the time to get to the nursery….
